USAID/Armenia intends to competitively award a grant for further humanitarian de-mining work in the Nagorno Karabakh (NK) region within the recognized borders of former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan, to continue progress toward completing the de-mining of the territory. The grant will be for two years, with three, one-year option periods. Funding is at the rate of $450,000 per year for the first two years, a total of $900,000, with any option year funding to be determined.
Specific activities are to include: continued survey work to maintain accurate information on mine clearance needs and help determine priority areas; sharing of this information with all relevant parties, in particular through the NK Mine Action Center; continued mine awareness activities in schools and affected communities; continued operations of manual mine clearance teams, large-loop detector teams, mechanical clearance teams, and BAC teams, the exact mix to be determined by needs and priorities; possible addition of other clearance means such as dog teams; continued provision of an emergency ?call out? services to respond to reports of possible mines or ordnance.
